Privacy notice
The following information, including your personal information and bank account details, are required by law under Section 25 and Schedule 1 of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 and is collected by the ACT Revenue Office (ACTRO) for the purpose of bond lodgement. Your date of birth is collected with your consent when you register for an ACT Digital Account, which we will use to verify your identity when using the Rental Bonds Portal. We may also use your date of birth using or administering your account in the portal, or to verify your identity when making phone enquiries.
Your personal information is protected by the Information Privacy Act 2014 and the Territory Privacy Principles (TPPs) Your personal information will not be disclosed without your consent, or unless a permitted exception under the TPPs applies.
The personal information of Lessors provided for bond lodgement may also be collected and used by ACTRO where required or authorised by or under a tax law, or for one or more of ACTRO’s enforcement related functions or activities. ACTRO may undertake for data matching activities with that information for taxation compliance activities, for example, to identify Land Tax non-compliance and any other possible breach of legislation administered by the Commissioner for ACT Revenue. Serious criminal or financial penalties may apply if found in breach of tax laws.
Information (including personal information) collected by ACTRO under a tax law or as a result of exercising a function under or in relation to a tax law, is protected information and governed by secrecy provisions contained the Taxation Administration Act 1999 and other Acts. Protected information cannot be disclosed unless it is in accordance with those Acts.
