Refunds

If you think you are due a refund of a duty for an amount overpaid to the ACT Revenue Office you should apply using the Duty Refund Form.

You will need to state the circumstances regarding the refund in the form and attach any supporting documentation to the submission in support of your application for refund.

Generally there is a 5 year time limit from when the tax was paid in which a taxpayer may apply to us for a refund of tax. This limit does not apply where another tax law has its own specific provision in relation to refunds of tax.

We’ll only pay you interest in addition to your refund if you’re entitled to the refund as the result of a successful objection  or appeal.

Interest may be included with a refund. Interest applies if the ACT Revenue Office over assessed your transaction and the amount was paid by a taxpayer.
