Readability
To assist users who may not have high broadband Internet connections, wherever possible the total size of a web page (text, images and scripts) does not exceed 170Kb.
To minimise scrolling, wherever possible we have a maximum page length. For users with a screen size configuration of 800 x 600 and using the default font size, the content on a page, will not extend beyond 7 web page lengths. For users with a screen configuration of 1280 x 1024 this is about 3 web page lengths.
Wherever possible web page content on this website complies with a Flesch Reading Ease score of between 40 - 60 and/or a Gunning Fog Index score of <13.
Navigation paths
This website uses the following rules:
- All external links are announced in the link description and external links always open in a new window.
- Links to ACT Revenue documents are provided in RTF and PDF format to maximise accessibility. RTF documents open in a new window.
- Links to documents will have the file type and file size announced in the link description. This enables the user to know the file size before activating the link.
- All pages have a breadcrumb trail of links leading back to the home page.
Visual design
To assist users with visual impairment all content images used on this site include descriptive text. Decorative images do not include descriptive text. To assist users with a visual impairment such as colour blindness, this site uses colours to ensure contrast between background and text is greater than 5:1. Even when web users invert the displayed colours on their browsers, the content on this site is still viewable.
