Ambulance Service Levy

Description

The Ambulance Service Levy is payable each month by private health insurance companies to offset the cost of providing ambulance services in the Territory. The levy is calculated on the number and type of private heath insurance contributions.

Levy Amount

From 1 January 2008 the levy is calculated at the rate of $1.79 per person per week and $3.58 per family per week. Contributions exempt from the levy calculation are defined under the Emergencies Regulations 2004.

Compliance Obligations/Requirements

Private Health Insurers are required to lodge returns by the 15th day of each month. This can be done either by using the Ambulance Levy Return Form or using the Online Ambulance Levy Return. You should be aware that giving false or misleading information is a serious offence.
